Connecting Essay Two

This is a picture I found on the internet focusing on the topic of clones. This picture contains a fountain and shows the main subject doing different things all around the picture. The clone consists of one person doing different actions and gestures, showing variety throughout the photograph. The photographer chose a sunny day to shoot as this highlights the summer season and the water cooling off the girl from the hot weather. Her clothing also suggests that the weather is quite hot and the effect used gives this picture that hot, boiling, summer day look. Also, the background seems to be empty even though this looks like a public place. This has been done deliberately in order to ensure that the viewer is not confused by other people in addition to the clones, this way they can focus on the the main subject only.

This is my picture also consisting of clones; I chose my main subject and manipulated her so I could portray her in different ways and show different personalities. If you look carefully, each of the clones show different characteristics through the use of gestures. The clothing of my subject contrasts with the background, hence why I chose this scene. It allows the viewer to clearly see my main subject and automatically focus on her. The space was used wisely as the clones each have their own personal space and are not all cramped together.

Both of these images consist of a female clone being placed carefully around the picture to show variety and diversity. The pictures both contain a scene chosen carefully and these scenes have been used to compliment the main subjects and to ensure the viewers focus on them rather than their surroundings. The effects used in the two photographs are different but are used for the same purpose; to highlight the weather condition - a hot summer day and a dark spring day. This is further emphasised by the clothing of the main subjects in the images, this has been done to show consistency in the pictures as this is one of the themes being portrayed. For example, the consistency of the main subject and the consistency of the weather. On the other hand, the pictures do differ slightly, the picture from the internet show the clones of the main subject smiling, showing the same characteristics whereas mine shows different personalities. I thought of doing this so I could give deeper meaning to my photograph.
