Photographer Research - Sandrine Estrade Boulet

I chose Sandrine Estrade Boulet because I think her work is absolutely incredible, and how she inspired me, especially when she turns every day objects into works of art. I personally think that her work brings about a childish feel, thus reminding her viewers of their wild imagination from their childhood.  She has revolutionised the streets of Paris by taking it's streets and it's everyday objects and simply drew on them.

“When you are a kid, you spend hours laying down in the grass seeing/visualising amazing things in the clouds. Well, I have decided this should never stop.”

In this picture, Boulet has made a useless, boring object look like it has some kind of value. The ironing board, which has been thrown out doesn't look like it's worthless anymore.

This picture is symbolic; people are always accidentally bumping into these and the fact that it's sticking it's tongue out emphasises on how common this happens to people.

In this picture, a famous landmark is being portrayed as a humorous object. The contrast between the sky and the Eiffel Tower makes it stand out and making sure the viewer is focused on her main focus.

This picture is really funny and creative. By using the umbrella as a skirt, Boulet is able to show off her imagination and ideas. She also matched her editing to the actual situation in the picture - a broken umbrella is often very frustrating and by editing in a lady in distress, she emphasises on this.

Overall, this photographer has a creative way of approaching the whole topic of Photomontage. She has great ideas about turning things we barely take notice of into great, new creations. Her work contains a variety of colour due to her cartoon edits, which make her pictures even more attractive and helps them to stand out. Another reason why her work is so good is because she perceives objects and situations very differently to what other people do and she shows this off in her work. Moreover, apart from the actual cartoon bits in her pictures, Boulet, rarely edits the original picture and if she does, it's normally just to slightly adjust the brightness or the contrast. By not editing her work as such, she allows her pictures to look more realistic, emphasising on the objects/situations she picked for her pictures.

I have been influenced by this photographer mostly because her work surprises me every time. As I looked through her portfolio, every single one of her pictures amazed me and it did not get boring or dull. Although, the same concept and techniques are being used over and over again, Boulet has a way of making her pictures unique as well as unpredictable. I am also influenced by the way she changes the way someone may perceive an object, I would very much like to try do this with my pictures. I like how she is always keeping an open mind and I think by also doing this, I will be able to come up with exciting new pictures.

This is a picture of mine that us similar to Boulet's work. I have turned a boring old fan heater into a character. This is a great way to turn used objects into great new things.

In summary, I really like this photographer and I would like to replicate some of her work in the future just to see how it works and what techniques I could use. Her unusual way of editing pictures brings excitement and laughter to the viewer and she uses this to grab their attention and keep it.
